Lüder Halenbeck (born May 21, 1841 in Vegesack ; † February 19, 1895 in Bremen ) was a German educator, local researcher and writer .

biography

Halenbeck came from a family of boatmen and seafarers who had lived in Vegesack since the early 18th century. The house where he was born was at Weserstraße 3. He had been married to Tibeta Kautzner (1842–1897) from Vegesack since 1869, with whom he had five children.

From 1861 Halenbeck was a teacher at the Protestant Stephanischule in Bremen and after 1866 at private teaching institutes (Janson, Struckmann) in Bremen. He is considered the nestor of local research for Vegesack and Bremen-Nord. His historical publications are based on research in archives, narratives and one's own perception. To this day, they offer numerous points of contact for research and the basis for the regional historiography of the Bremen-North region. In addition, he was a great friend of nature and has published numerous hiking guides that he has enriched with knowledgeable historical information and references to geology, flora and fauna.

He died on February 19, 1897 (not on February 12, as stated by Kühtmann and Schwarzwälder) as a result of a stroke when he wanted to visit a friend, the Bremen geographer Alwin Oppel . He was buried on February 23, 1897 in the Waller Friedhof (grave EE 66a). His tomb has not been preserved.

Part of his written estate, including unpublished manuscripts, is in the archive of the Vegesack Heimatmuseum Schloss Schönebeck . A manuscript on the history of the St. Stephani Church from 1872 belongs to the loss of the State and University Library in Bremen . The manuscript of Friedrich von der Borch , the first of his line at the Schönebeck house and his descendants, has been preserved there as a copy.
