Alfred Kühtmann

Alfred Kühtmann (born March 24, 1847 in Bremen , † January 12, 1931 in Bremen) was a German lawyer , notary and legal scholar.

biography

Kühtmann was the son of a businessman. His uncle was the bookseller Johann Christian Kühtmann . In his youth he also lived on Gut Grolland . He graduated from the old grammar school and studied law at the University of Würzburg , the University of Heidelberg and the University of Berlin . In Heidelberg he did his doctorate in Dr. jur. He had acquired his knowledge of legal history from Siegfried Brie in 1869/70 and from Emil Herrmann in canon law .

In Bremen he became a lawyer in 1872 and a notary in 1878. He was a member of the historical society and served on the board until 1913 and also in the Bremen animal protection association . His legal history work on legal philosophical topics gained importance.

In the historical society he reported, among other things, in 1874/75 on the Bremen church order of 1534 and later on more recent works on the history of the city constitution, especially the so-called market law theory .

Kühtmann initially wrote three canonical treatises and then four treatises on legal history. He wrote other essays on political and cultural history as well as biographies and many reviews . Kühtmann's important creative period was between 1890 and 1910, when he dealt with legal history. He was involved in the constitution of the work Bremen Biographies of the Nineteenth Century published by the Historical Society of Bremen in 1912 .
