Tomasz Nikodem Hajto (born October 16, 1972 in Maków Podhalański , Poland ) is a former Polish football player and current football coach .
Club career
player
Hajto played 201 times in the Bundesliga between 1997 and 2005 for MSV Duisburg , FC Schalke 04 and 1. FC Nürnberg after he had moved to the Bundesliga from Górnik Zabrze . With MSV Duisburg he reached the final of the DFB-Pokal in 1998 and with Schalke 04 he won the DFB-Pokal in 2001 and 2002 .
In 2005 he moved to Southampton FC in the English second division. There he could not assert himself and switched to Derby County during the winter break . In 2006 he then moved back to the Polish Ekstraklasa for Łódzki KS . In 2007 Hajto signed with Górnik Zabrze ; his contract was dissolved in the winter of 2008 and he went back to league rivals Łódzki KS in early 2009.
Hajto distinguished himself as a defender through physical effort. He was shown 16 yellow cards in the 1998/99 season , holding the record for the most cautions in a Bundesliga season for over 20 years before he was replaced by Klaus Gjasula in the 2019/20 season . Hajto was also known for his broad objections.
Trainer
In 2011 Hajto became player- coach at the lower-class Polish club LUKS Gomunice , for which his son Mateusz (* 1993) also played. From 2012 to 2013 he was coach of Jagiellonia Białystok together with Dariusz Dźwigała . At the end of the 2012/13 season he left Jagiellonia Białystok. At the beginning of December 2014, Tomasz Hajto signed a 3.5-year contract with the Polish second division club GKS Tychy . Here he was released after only 15 games and the club's relegation to third division at the end of the season. Since then he has been without a new club.
National team
Hajto played 62 times for the Polish national football team between 1996 and 2005 . With her he took part in the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea .
