Tomasz Tomaszewski (born May 6, 1953 in Warsaw , Poland ) is a Polish photographer .

He began his photographic career with articles for the Polish magazine "Solidarity Weekly" and for magazines in the underground press. In the meantime his photos have appeared in magazines and newspapers worldwide, including in " Stern ", " National Geographic ", " GEO ", " US News & World Report ", " New York Times " and " Time ". He himself describes his style as humanistic , his works portray political events and minorities.

He also organized two exhibitions of his paintings: "Ostatni Żydzi Polscy" (The Last Polish Jews) and "Cyganie. Inni Ludzie Tacy Jak My" (Gypsies. Other people like us). In 1994 he was commissioned by National Geographic magazine to do a portrait of the USA. The pictures were later published as a book "In search of America".

His latest work is the installation "Prezent" (present), which consists of a glass table filled with hundreds of slides. The installation questions the importance of photography at a time when it is undergoing fundamental changes, both in technology and in aesthetics.

Tomasz Tomaszewski is the husband of the journalist and lawyer Małgorzata Niezabitowska , the former government spokeswoman for Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki .
