Tomb Raider: The Ride was a ride in the US amusement park Kings Island in Cincinnati , Mason , Ohio . The system was developed by Huss Maschinenfabrik in Bremen and was delivered as a prototype to this park for the first time. To this day it is the only one of its kind and has remained unique.

history

In 2000, Huss Maschinenfabrik presented their new Giant Rides series. These are well-known rides that, due to their size, were only suitable for use in amusement parks. At the time, Kings Island was one of the five Paramount parks. The Paramount company ordered several new rides from Huss, also from the new Giant Rides series. These included a Top Spin Suspended for Paramount Kings Dominion, a Jump 2 for Paramount Canada's Wonderland and a Giant Frisbee and a Giant Top Spin for Paramount Kings Island .

Announcement on the fence

In the 2001 season, the Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal at Kings Island Amusement Park made its last ride. As of April 24, 2001, the area around the wild water course was fenced in with the notice along the fence that "An exciting new adventure is coming 2002". On July 2, 2001, the park officially announced the name of the new attraction for the next season: Tomb Raider: The Ride .

The attraction "Tomb Raider: The Ride" was an Indoor Darkride Giant Top Spin. The attraction opened on April 5, 2002. The ride was based on the ride of a typical Top Spin ride with the difference that twice as many people can ride. The height was also twice that of the smaller Top Spin 2 . In addition, the entire ride was themed after the 2001 Paramount Pictures film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider . In addition, the music from the soundtrack from the film could be heard, synchronized with numerous laser and water effects, fog and light effects. The journey time was approximately 2:30 minutes.

The cost of building the new attraction was around $ 20 million. This makes it one of the most expensive attractions the park has ever built.

The Crypt (2008-2011)

In June 2006, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company purchased all five Paramount parks from Viacom . Since the new park operator no longer had license rights, all references to the film were removed at the end of the 2007 season, both on the ride itself and in the pre-show in the indoor waiting area. On January 21, 2008, the park's official website changed the name of the attraction from "Tomb Raider: The Ride" to the new name of Cedar Fair "The Crypt". In addition, the entire first row of seats was removed from the 77-seat gondola, which reduced the capacity by a third. The water and fog effects have also been removed from the ride. At the beginning of 2009 the ride was reprogrammed and the previous ride was replaced by a less intensive ride program. Since then, the ride has only made half as many rollover times than originally. Instead of the music from the soundtrack, the latest techno music was heard. The travel time has also been reduced to 1:10 minutes.

"The Crypt" gave its last ride on October 30, 2011. On January 20, 2012, the attraction was removed from the park's website without an explanation. The park confirmed on Twitter about a month later that The Crypt "has reached the end of its useful life" and that the attraction "would be replaced with an entirely new Halloween haunted experience".

Halloween haunted attraction (2012–)

As announced, the ride was no longer available at the beginning of the 2012 season and there was now a Halloween wax museum in the hall where the ride was previously located.
