Tombokoye Tessa

Tombokoye Tessa (* around 1927 in Sina Dey , Tessa ; † April 14, 1990 in Niamey ; actually Adamou Ali ) was a Nigerian singer .

Life

Tombokoye Tessa belonged to the Songhai - Zarma ethnic group . He was a son and grandson of Islamic scholars. He was supposed to follow in their footsteps, but did not finish his theological training. Certain elements of Islamic scholarship, such as the technique of reciting the Koran , shaped his approach as an artist. Tombokoye Tessa saw herself as a marabout . He sang in the Songhai-Zarma language and usually without any instrumental accompaniment. Traditionally oriented in terms of style, he adapted the subject matter of his songs to the current situation.

Tombokoye Tessa achieved a great reputation as a singer in Niger during his fifty-year career. Because of his popularity, he was often heard on national radio.
