Tessa is a rural municipality in the department of Dosso in Niger .

geography

Tessa is located in the greater Sudan landscape . The neighboring communities are Goroubankassam in the north, Karguibangou in the east, Dioundiou in the south and Farey in the west. The municipality is divided into 34 administrative villages, four traditional villages, four hamlets and 16 camps. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Tessa.

The large, periodically water-bearing dry valley Dallol Foga runs through the municipality in a north-south direction . Of all the municipalities in the Dosso region , Tessa is at the highest risk of flooding.

history

Tessa was founded by Zarma . In 1900, the ruler of Tessa submitted to the French but refused to accept the supremacy of the Zarmakoye of Dosso . Nevertheless, a few years later, Tessa was integrated into the canton of Dosso. The rural community of Tessa was only spun off from the canton of Dosso in 2002 during a nationwide administrative reform.

At the 2001 census, Tessa had 19,734 residents. At the 2012 census, the population was 26,668.

Economy and Infrastructure

Tessa is in a rain-fed zone . National Road 1 , which is part of the international Dakar-N'Djamena Highway , runs through the north of the municipality, near the administrative village of Tourobon .
