Garankédey (also: Garankadèye ) is a rural municipality in the Dosso department in Niger .

geography

Garankédey is located in the greater Sudan landscape . The neighboring communities are Koygolo in the northwest, Sokorbé in the northeast, Mokko in the east, Dosso in the southeast, Gollé in the south and Kiota in the southwest. The municipality is divided into 23 administrative villages (including Goudel ), 14 traditional villages, four hamlets and 21 camps. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Garankédey.

history

The rural community of Garankédey emerged from a part of the canton of Dosso in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform. In 2009, floods attempted material damage in the administrative village of Gonda Tarey, directly affecting 400 residents.

population

At the 2001 census, Garankédey had 24,871 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 35,009. The majority of the population are Zarma , there is also a minority of Fulbe .

Economy and Infrastructure

Garankédey is in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced. There are two secondary schools in the municipality, located in the administrative villages of Garankédey and Deytégui Attili, and 20 primary schools. A 45 kilometer long slope connects Deytégui Attili with the regional capital Dosso. The sandy traffic routes in the interior of the rural community are not very practical in the rainy season.
