Goroubankassam (also: Gorouban Kassam , Gorou Bankassam ) is a rural community in the Dosso department in Niger .

geography

Goroubankassam is located in the greater Sudan landscape . The neighboring communities are Mokko in the northwest, Tombokoirey I in the northeast, Karguibangou in the east, Tessa in the southeast, Farey in the south, Gollé in the southwest and Dosso in the west. The municipality is divided into 33 administrative villages, 26 traditional villages, a hamlet and 26 camps. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Goroubankassam (also: Gorou Bankassam).

The large, periodically water-bearing dry valley Dallol Foga runs through the east of the municipality in a north-south direction .

history

The rural community of Goroubankassam emerged from a part of the canton of Dosso in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform. In June 2008, floods destroyed 181 huts in the community and 266 residents were considered damaged.

population

At the 2001 census, Goroubankassam had 24,870 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 33,125.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced. National Road 1 runs through Goroubankassam and is part of the international Dakar-N'Djamena Highway .
