history

Sambéra was founded at the end of the 19th century by Zarma who settled the area between the city of Dosso and the Niger River. The name Sambéra comes from the Zarma word sambérou , which means a tree. The French colonial administration founded a canton of Sambéra in 1920 , but it was dissolved in 1940 and joined to the canton of Dosso. The rural community of Sambéra was created as an administrative unit during a nationwide administrative reform in 2002. The canton of Dosso was dissolved and its territory was divided into eleven communities. In 2009, floods attempted material damage, which directly affected around 1,300 residents.

population

At the 2001 census, Sambéra had 36,746 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 50,820. The population consists mostly of Zarma.

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture and animal husbandry are the economic cornerstones of the community. They are threatened by frequent droughts and floods.
