Falmey is a rural municipality and the capital of the Falmey department of the same name in Niger .

Falmey is located in the greater Sudan region at the mouths of the Dallol Bosso and Mékrou in the Niger River . The community borders on the neighboring state of Benin in the south . The neighboring communities in Niger are Fabidji in the north, Gollé , Guilladjé and Sambéra in the east and Kirtachi in the west. The W National Park, a world natural heritage site, extends southwest of Falmey .

The municipality is divided into 38 administrative villages, 13 traditional villages and 70 hamlets. The main town of the rural municipality is Falmey, consisting of the administrative villages of Falmey Djerma and Falmey Haoussa. Another important administrative village in Falmey is Boumba .

history

1964 an administrative reform divided Niger into seven departments, the predecessors of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessors of the later departments. Falmey was added to the newly created Arrondissement Boboye , but received the status of an administrative post ( poste administratif ) in the area of ​​the Arrondissement. Administrative posts were special territorial units one level below the arrondissements, which were regarded as a kind of preliminary stage for a later conversion into a separate arrondissement. In 1998, the previous Arrondissements of Nigers were converted into departments. The administrative post of Falmey was removed from the Boboye department in 2011 and raised to the Falmey department.

At the 2001 census, Falmey had 56,650 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 75,115.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced. There is a cattle market in Malam Koira village. The market day is Friday.
