Falmey is a department in the region Dosso in Niger .

geography

The department is located in the south-west of the country and borders on Benin . It consists of the rural parishes of Falmey and Guilladjé . The eponymous capital of the department is Falmey.

history

The department goes back to the administrative post ( poste administratif ) of Falmey, which was established in 1964. In 2011 the administrative post was removed from the Boboye department and raised to the Falmey department.

population

The Falmey department has 103,271 inhabitants according to the 2012 census. From 2001 to 2012, the population increased by an average of 2.4% annually (nationwide: 3.9%).

administration

At the head of the department is a prefect (French: préfet ) who is appointed by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior .
