Tibiri is a department in the region Dosso in Niger .

geography

The department is located in the south-west of the country and borders Nigeria. It consists of the rural municipalities of Douméga , Guéchémé , Koré Maïroua and Tibiri . The eponymous capital is Tibiri.

history

The department goes back to the administrative post ( poste administratif ) of Tibiri, which was established in 1988. In 2011 the administrative post was removed from the Dogondoutchi department and raised to the Tibiri department.

population

The Tibiri department has 270,016 inhabitants according to the 2012 census. From 2001 to 2012, the population increased by an average of 2.3% annually (nationwide: 3.9%).

administration

At the head of the department is a prefect (French: préfet ) who is appointed by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior .
