Guilladjé (also Guiladjé and Guillagué ) is a rural municipality in the Falmey department in Niger .

geography

Guilladjé is located in the Sahel zone and covers an area of ​​900 km 2 . The neighboring communities are Kankandi in the north, Gollé in the east and Falmey in the south and west. The municipality is divided into 25 administrative villages and 66 hamlets. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Guilladjé.

The Wadi Dallol Bosso crosses the municipality from north to south. Numerous permanent and semi-permanent ponds ( mares ) form a circle from west to east. The landscape is characterized by plains and plateaus. The rainy season lasts from May to September, the dry season from October to April.

history

The rural community of Guilladjé was created as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a state-wide administrative reform from part of the canton of Birni N'Gaouré / Boboye. Since 2011, the rural community no longer belongs to the Boboye department , but to the newly created Falmey department.

population

At the 2001 census, Guilladjé had 20,955 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 28,156. The majority of the population are Fulbe and Zarma , and members of the Hausa and Tuareg ethnic groups live in the rural community.

Economy and Infrastructure

The population lives mainly from agriculture and animal husbandry. Millet, sorghum and rice, which is grown in the lowlands, provide the yield . Poultry farming is of particular importance in Guilladjé. Cattle, sheep, goats and donkeys are also kept. There is a cattle market in the main town. The market day is Sunday.
