Kankandi is a rural municipality in the department boboye department in Niger .

geography

Kankandi is located in the greater Sudan landscape . The neighboring communities are Birni N'Gaouré in the north, Gollé in the east, Guilladjé in the south and Fabidji in the west. The municipality is divided into 23 administrative villages, six traditional villages and 40 hamlets. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Kankandi.

history

The rural community of Kankandi was created as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a national administrative reform from part of the canton of Birni N'Gaouré / Boboye.

population

At the 2001 census, Kankandi had 11,307 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 16,565.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced. The Kankandi weekly market was founded in 1947.
