history

The Zarma village Fabidji was founded in the 18th century by immigrants from the area around Dosso . It was conveniently located at the crossroads of two trade routes: one connected Bornu in the east and Fada N'Gourma in the west, the other led from the north through the Dallol Bosso to Djougou in the south.

The rural community of Fabidji was created as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from part of the canton of Birni N'Gaouré / Boboye.

At the 2001 census, Fabidji had 30,520 residents. At the 2012 census, the population was 39,713.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced. There is a regionally important weekly market in the main town. The market day is Friday.
