Wilhelm Heinrich von der Goltz
Wilhelm Heinrich Freiherr von der Goltz (born January 7, 1724 in Plutwinnen , † August 28, 1789 in Stettin ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general and most recently chief of the " Goltz Regiment on foot " and knight of the Pour le Mérite .
Life
His parents were Heinrich Ludwig von der Goltz (* 1678; † June 9, 1742) and Anna Eleonore von Königsegg († January 24, 1736). His father was a colonel in the Electoral Saxon bodyguard and heir to Leißienen and Plutwinnen .
In 1735 he came to Magdeburg as a private corporal in the “ Regiment Goltz on foot ” . His uncle Christoph Heinrich von der Goltz was the head of the regiment at the time . In 1738 he became an ensign and rose further until he was major in 1760. In April 1763 he had Friedrich von der Trenck, imprisoned in Magdeburg, engrave a pewter beaker for his 25th anniversary in the service . In 1771 he became lieutenant colonel and on June 7, 1772 he was already a colonel. In 1773 he was transferred to the " Fusilier Regiment Rohr " as a commander. In 1780 he took over the former " Fusilier Regiment Luck " as chief . On August 4, 1781, he received his promotion to major general. In April 1782 Goltz acquired the manors Grunenfeld and Schöndamerau between Heiligenbeil and Braunsberg from the von Beneckendorff family. In 1784 he was assigned the higher ranking former " Winterfeld on Foot Regiment " in Stettin . In February 1787 he acquired the Schöningen manor in West Pomerania for 49,600 thaler. On June 1, 1788 he was made lieutenant general and died the following year.
He fought in the First Silesian War , Second Silesian War and the Seven Years' War . He was seriously wounded in the battle of Leuthen and Torgau . In the battle of Rossbach he was a captain and received the Pour le Mérite .
family
In 1765 he married Sophie Auguste von Dacheröden (* December 24, 1737; † April 22, 1812) the daughter of the district president of Magdeburg and sister of the war and domain chamber president Karl Friedrich von Dacheröden . She was also an aunt of Caroline von Dacheröden , the wife of Wilhelm von Humboldt . The couple had no children.
