Serra San Quirico is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2671 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Ancona in Marche . The municipality is located about 44 kilometers west-southwest of Ancona on the Esino . Serra San Quirico is part of the Comunità montana dell'Esino Frasassi and borders the province of Macerata . Part of the municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi .

history

The settlement is believed to be of Etruscan origin. In 950 the settlement was destroyed. From the 12th century, the Papal States began to fortify the place. The village has had the status of a municipality since the 17th century.

The Strada Statale 76 della Val d'Esino runs through the municipality from Ancona to Perugia . Serra San Quirico train station is on the Rome- Ancona railway line .
