Castelplanio (in the local dialect simply Castello ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3514 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Ancona in the Marche region . The community is located about 37 kilometers west-southwest of Ancona on the Esino .
history
The place is on the old Via Clementina, which was built by Pope Clement XII. had been erected. The place is first mentioned as Castel Plani in 1283. The municipality has had city rights ( Città ) since 2007.

In the south and southeast, the Strada statale 76 della Val d'Esino from Ancona to Perugia forms the municipal boundary . Castelplanio train station is on the Rome- Ancona railway line . The station also serves the neighboring municipality of Cupramontana .
