Life

Hama Hima Souley was born in the Falmey village of Belandé Kaïna in western Niger. His father was an import-export merchant in the capital Niamey and founded the Souley Group as a family business in 1976, which developed into one of the most important private companies in the country based on a nationwide monopoly on trading in Nestlé products. Hama Hima Souley began studying law at Niamey University , which he completed with a license en droit , in order to take over the management of the family business in 1985 after the death of his father.

By expanding to include the trade in rice and sugar, the Souley Group achieved a high level of brand awareness in Niger. Hima Souley also became a key figure in the informal sector . In contrast to other important economic players, he refrained from entering politics during the democratization of the 1990s. However, he was considered a supporter and financier of the National Development Society Movement , the ruling party in the Niamey region. He was also related by marriage to Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara , President of the Republic from 1996 to 1999 . In 1998, the Souley Group bought the state-run dairy company Solani , thereby diversifying further. Hima Souley also became chairman of the board of directors of BIA-Niger , the country's most important bank, and of the telecommunications company Telecel . The Souley Group also took over the majority of shares in Snar-Leyma , the largest insurance company in Niger. In February 2000, Hima Souley founded Ténéré TV, the first Nigerien private television channel .

Hima Souley was President of the Fédération Nigérienne de Football , the national football association of Niger , from 1996 to 2005 . His replacement was preceded by a long crisis in the football association. He also served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Confédération Africaine de Football , FIFA's regional African confederation.

In 2015, Hima Souley was appointed as the traditional chef traditionnel of his birthplace, Belandé Kaïna.
