Tomintoul [ˌtɒmɪn'taʊ̯l] is a whiskey brand and distillery located near Ballindalloch , Moray , Scotland . It is located in the Speyside region and is named after the nearby Tomintoul , the highest village in the Scottish Highlands .
history
Tomintoul was founded in Ballindalloch in 1964 by the companies W & S Strong and Hay & MacLeod . In 1973 the distillery was sold to White & Mackay , which it kept until 2000 and is also responsible for expanding from one to two pairs of stills in 1974. In 2000 the distillery was sold to Angus Dundee Distillers .

Tomintoul gets its water from the nearby Ballantruan spring. Two wash stills and two spirit stills are used for the distillation , which can produce 32,000 hl of alcohol per year. According to its own information, the distillery is currently operating at its capacity limit. Up to 116,000 barrels can be stored in the warehouses for maturation.
Bottlings
A large part of the whiskeys produced is used for the production of blends , but different single malt bottlings are also constantly offered. Tomintoul's single malts are among the lightest Speyside malts.
