Tommy Tutone is an American pop band founded in 1978 , which in 1982 was able to place a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “867-5309 / Jenny” .

history

The band was founded by singer Tommy Heath and guitarist Jim Keller; the original line-up also included bassist Terry Nails and drummer Mickey Shine. There was a high turnover in the latter two positions, after leaving the band, Nails played for Ozzy Osbourne and Shine for Elvis Costello .

In 1980 the band had their first notable success when their first single "Angel Say No" hit the top 40 on the Billboard charts. The first album was also quite successful with position 68 in the album charts. In the following year the second single "867-5309 / Jenny" climbed to number 4 in the single charts and achieved gold status, the corresponding album reached position 20.

The next album “National Emotion” and the single “Get Around Girl” in 1983, however, missed the audience's taste. The album barely made it into the top 200 and the single never hit the sales charts. Given the failure, the band broke up. Heath revitalized the band in 1994 and released two more albums in 1996 and 1998, but without commercial success.
