history

Originally, the region around Tonekābon belonged to the Gilan Province . Numerous finds in this area show that Tonekābon was once a prosperous city. The old Tonekābon was in Royān territory , also called Rostamdār , over which the Pādusbanān ruled until the reign of Shah Abbas I. Until the accession of Qajar Āqā Mohammad Khān the city was then under the name Faiz known. After the fall of this dynasty the city was called Shahsavār and got its real name back after the Islamic Revolution .
