Toni Schmid

Toni Schmid (born August 22, 1909 in Furth im Wald ; † May 16, 1932 on the Großer Wiesbachhorn , Austria ) was a German mountaineer .

Life

Together with his brother Franz (1905-1992) he was the first to climb the Matterhorn from July 31, 1931 to August 1, 1931 via the north face.

He fell while climbing the northwest face of the Great Wiesbachhorn in the Glockner Group.

Post mortem he and his brother received the Prix ​​olympique d'alpinisme from the IOC for the first ascent of the Matterhorn during the IX. Awarded the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

His grave is in the Munich forest cemetery .
