The Tonsina Glacier is a glacier in the US state of Alaska on the northern flank of the Chugach Mountains .
geography
The 15.5 km long valley glacier has its nutrient area at an altitude of 1650 m in the Chugach Mountains 25 km northeast of Valdez . The glacier, which is 1.7 km wide on average, flows in an easterly direction, flanked by peaks up to 2300 m high. The glacier tongue extends down to about 1000 m . It forms the source of the Tonsina River , a right tributary of the Copper River . The glacier is retreating.
