The Tonsina River is an approx. 100 km long right tributary of the Copper River in the south of Alaska (USA).
It rises from the Tonsina Glacier on the northern flank of the Chugach Mountains , flows northeastward, flows through Tonsina Lake and flows around 17 km northwest of Chitina into the Copper River, which flows into the Gulf of Alaska .
The Richardson Highway in the middle reaches and the Edgerton Highway to the mouth run parallel to the Tonsina River.
The name of the native Alaskans for the river was documented in 1885 by Henry Tureman Allen , who used the spelling "Konsina".
