Tony Cucchiara
Tony Cucchiara (actually Salvatore Cucchiara ; born October 30, 1937 in Agrigento ; † May 2, 2018 in Rome ) was an Italian songwriter and singer.
Life
Cucchiara studied music and began small gigs in 1955, which was followed by his radio debut the following year. In 1957 he took part in the television program "Voci e volti della fortuna", which offered variety performances. With a music label in Naples he signed his first record deal in 1958; two years later the Rai offered him better conditions, after which Cucciara moved to Milan, where he made recordings with several orchestras, including those of Piero Umiliani and Pippo Barzizza . He was a regular guest on the television show Il fico d'India . In 1962 his publication Lorelyn e Lucienne had the greatest success until then; the subsequent Annalisa was chosen as the theme song of the program "Alta pressione". Cucciara took part in Cantagiro and sang the hit Cantu d'amuri written by Umiliani for the film L'amore difficile . Years of success followed; In 1966 he played the role of a singer in the film Let your fingers off the doll .
With his wife Nelly Fioramonti , Cucchiara formed a folk duo who recorded two albums with their own songs, but also cover versions of well-known American pieces by Pete Seeger and Phil Ochs . Il tempo dell'amore was a great success for the singing couple in 1969. As a solo artist, Cucchiara had other hits: È l'amore in 1966 , Ciao arrivederci in 1967 and Vola cuore mio in the summer of 1971 . In that year he wrote Una casa piccola for Donatella Moretti and took part in the Sanremo Festival with Preghiera in 1972 ; for Giuliana Valci he published Cavaliere di latta and Come un vecchio amico .
Overshadowed by the private tragedy of the death of his wife during the birth of their second child, Cucchiara turned to some stage works; the musical Cassandra 2000 and its successor Cain and Abel were well received. This led him to concentrate more and more on the production of stage musicals. Several other pieces were created, such as Pipino il breve in 1983 , which incorporated elements of folk music into its medieval material, and Don Chisciotte di Girgenti in the early 1990s , which he produced in collaboration with the Teatro Stabile di Catania . With his son Gianluca he wrote L'altra Cenerentola and Il conte di Montecristo .
