Tony Evans

Tony Evans (* 1949 ) is an American evangelical preacher and pastor . He became known throughout the United States as an author. In 1982 the evangelical Dallas Theological Seminary Evans was the first African American to award a doctorate in theology . As a lecturer, Evans teaches homiletics and black church studies at this seminar. There he is also a member of the teaching staff . His main occupation is senior pastor of the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship , which he founded in 1976 , an independent Protestant church in a district of Dallas that has since grown to over 9,000 members. He is also the founder of Urban Alternative , which among other things broadcasts his sermons on television, and the author of more than 30 books.

2017 after the assassination in Charlottesville Evans wrote with Pastor TD Jakes and the president of the Southern Baptist Convention , Steve Gaines , a letter to Donald Trump , in which they demanded that he should take concrete action against racism in the United States.

Evans has been the chaplain of the NBA Dallas Mavericks team for many years . He is married with four children who also serve in the preaching ministry. His son Jonathan (* 1981), a former professional football player , is the chaplain of the Dallas Cowboys , just like his father.
