The Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) is an interdenominational, evangelical training center in Dallas , Texas, United States. For a long time it was considered a refuge of dispensationalism and today emphasizes a biblical and missionary orientation. DTS campuses are now also located in Atlanta , Austin , Guatemala City , Houston , Knoxville , San Antonio , Washington, DC, and Tampa . The seminar also offers multilingual online courses. There are now over 16,000 graduates from over 70 denominations in over 100 countries.

history

The seminary was founded in 1924 by Lewis Sperry Chafer and William Griffith Thomas. Since Thomas died that same year, Chafer began teaching the Bible to the first 13 students in the fall. A binding creed was introduced the following year. In 1926 a campus was bought and the first school building, Davidson Hall, was built in 1927. The DTS has published the journal Bibliotheca Sacra since 1934 . In 1935, the four-year course with the Master of Theology was introduced. The main focus was on systematic theology , Hebrew and Old Testament exegesis as well as Greek and New Testament exegesis.

In order to do justice to the increased intellectual demands for service in churches and schools, a doctorate can be acquired at the seminar since 1980. In 1982 Christian pedagogy and education began to be taught. In 1987 Mission Training in Intercultural Services was established. Since 1993 one can study Biblical Counseling and Biblical Exegesis and Linguistics, the latter in cooperation with the Dallas International University , which is based in South Dallas. In 2005 a seminar for media and communication was added, in which art and worship are important teaching contents. A Christian leadership seminar was offered for the first time in 2011. In 2015, an academic study program in Old Testament Studies, New Testament and Theological Studies was established.

Since faithfulness to biblical truth has been a top priority for the seminary from the start, all members of the board of directors and faculty are asked annually to agree to the creed out of conviction.
