Tony Ianzelo

Tony Ianzelo (born June 13, 1935 in Toronto ) is a Canadian cameraman and film director .

Live and act

Ianzelo studied at Ryerson Polytechnic College in his native Toronto. In 1960 he began his film career as a camera assistant with the National Film Board of Canada . Six years later he directed the short documentary Antonio , a film portrait of his father, for the first time. Since then, Ianzelo has worked as a cameraman and director in over 100 films. In his documentaries he dealt with topics such as hunters and trappers from the Cree people , everyday scenes from Canada and China, and artist portraits.

Ianzelo received two Oscar nominations as co-director , first in 1976 for the short documentary Blackwood , which portrays the Canadian etcher David Blackwood , and in 1978 for the documentary High Grass Circus , the 24 hours of everyday life at the Royal Brothers' traveling circus 'Circus shows.

Together with Colin Low , Ianzelo directed Transitions , the first IMAX 3D film, in 1986 . It was presented at Expo 86 .

Ianzelo is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. In 2003 he was made a member of the Order of Canada .
