Tony Marino (boxer)

Tony Marino (* 18th May 1912 in Duquesne , USA ; † 1. February 1937 ) was an American boxer in the bantamweight . He was managed by Reed Brown and Bill Newman . He was trained by Ray Arcel .

Professional career

On July 2, 1930, Marino made his debut among the professionals with a unanimous victory over his compatriot Young Ketchell over 6 rounds.

At the end of June 1936, Marino competed against the Spaniard Baltasar Sangchili and defeated him in a 15-round battle in the 14th round with a classic knockout. With this victory, Marino captured both the world title of the US boxing magazine The Ring and the linear world title .

However, Marino lost both titles in his next fight, which was also about the world championship title of the NYSAC association , at the end of August of the same year to the Puerto Rican Sixto Escobar through TKo in round 13.

Tony Marino retired the following year.
