The Toomey Strait is a strait in the Palmer Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . In Gerlache Street , it separates Wiencke Island in the west from the much smaller Fridtjof Island in the east.
Canadian scientists named it in 2010 after Patrick R. M. Toomey, Captain of the Canadian Coast Guard , who had years of experience as an ice pilot in Antarctic waters.
