Torben Lütjen (* 1974 in Bremen ) is a German political scientist .

Career

Lütjen studied political science in Göttingen, Caen and Berkeley. From 2006 to 2008 he was a member of the DFG graduate school “Friends, Patrons, Faithful: Practice and Semantics of Friendship and Patronage in a Historical, Anthropological and Cross-Cultural Perspective” at the University of Freiburg . He then headed a research group at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf until 2015, which was funded by the Volkswagen Foundation with a Schumpeter Fellowship. From 2015 to 2016 he worked as a director on behalf of the Institute for Democracy Research at the University of Göttingen and between 2017 and 2020 he was DAAD Visiting Associate Professor of European Studies and Political Science at Vanderbilt University . Since April 2020 he has held the substitute professorship for comparative political science at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.
