The Torfbahn Larjan ( Russian Узкоколейная железная дорога торфопредприятия "Ларьян" , transkr. Uskokoleinaja schelesnaja doroga torfopredprijatija "Larjan" , transl. Uzkokolejnaâ železnaâ doroga torfopredpriâtiâ "Lar'ân" ) is a narrow-gauge railway in the settlement Krassawa (Красава) in the Leningrad Oblast in Russia .

history

The field railway , which was 36 kilometers long at its peak , was put into operation around 1939. It has a track width of 750 millimeters. It is still used today for transporting peat and workers. The first section connected the city of Boksitogorsk with moors. Soon the railway line was expanded and a narrow-gauge railway line was built to the peat field north of today's village of Krassawa. In 1951, a section of the narrow-gauge railway from Krassawa to the reloading station in Tikhvin was opened.

In 2002 it was decided to dismantle the narrow-gauge railway in sections for scrapping. The dismantling of the line from Krassawa to the transfer station in Tikhvin began in 2003 and ended in 2004. The length of the narrow-gauge railway was reduced to a minimum. Since then, the work train only runs from Krassawa to the base camp in the peat bog. The length of the main line from Krassawa to the base camp is six kilometers, taking into account all routes, the length of the narrow-gauge railway is eight kilometers. The transition to truck transport of peat has not yet been considered sensible.

Around 2012, transport on the narrow-gauge railway was still running smoothly, and it transported peat and workers every day. The Torffirma Larjan (Tikhvin peat) produces agricultural peat and a wide range of products peat.
