The narrow-gauge railway was built and opened in the 1950s. The railroad was built to carry peat and workers and runs year round. In 2001 the Pelgorskoye-M (Пельгорское-М) peat company began replacing equipment and repairing the railroad between the peat bogs and the processing plants. At the height of its development, the total length of the narrow-gauge railway exceeded 25 kilometers, of which 20 kilometers are currently (2016) still in operation. In 2004 a peat factory was built and put into operation. In 2016 repairs were made to the route.
