Tormore or The Tormore Distillery is a whiskey distillery near Grantown-on-Spey , Moray , Scotland UK that has existed since the late 1950s . Their brandies belong to the Speyside region of origin in the Highlands .
history
In 1958, Long John Distillers began building a new distillery northeast of Grantown-on-Spey, about a kilometer from the River Spey . This was the first distillery to be built in Scotland in the 20th century. It was planned by the architect Sir Arthur Richardson and is considered one of the most impressive distilleries in the country. Despite its young age, it is already a listed building . In the vicinity of the distillery, workers' apartments were built in the same style. There are artfully trimmed on the premises topiary shrubs in the form of, for example, stills .
In 1972 the number of stills was doubled from four to eight. The distillery was taken over by Whitbread & Co and then Allied Distillers in 1975 . With the takeover of Allied Domecq , this distillery also became the property of Pernod Ricard in 2005 .
production
The water comes from the Achvochkie spring. The whiskey ( The Tormore ), which has been available since 1959, is distilled in four wash stills and four spirit stills . The distillery has a maximum capacity of 37,000 hl per year.
Bottlings
A large part of the whiskey produced is processed in blends , especially Long John . However, there are regular original bottlings as well as bottlings by independent bottlers.
