The Torre Gorgot (also known as Torre Galatea ) in Figueres , a Spanish city ​​in the Catalonia region , is a former defensive tower of the city ​​fortifications , which is now part of the Teatre-Museu Dalí . The building was declared a monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ) in 1949 .

history

The defense tower originally built in the 17th century was converted into a water tower in the 19th century . It was bought by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1983 and used to expand the Dalí Museum. It got its current appearance with its bright red color and the eggs on the roof.

The tower is also called Torre Galatea , alluding to Gala Éluard Dalí , the wife of Salvador Dalí .
