Torre dei Corsari
Torre dei Corsari (German: Pirate Tower ) is the name of a small holiday resort in the province of Sud Sardegna on the west coast of Sardinia and the Italian name for a Genoese or Saracen tower . The place is south of Oristano and north of the Costa Verde , a 47 km long coastline that is enclosed by Capo Frasca in the north and Capo Pecora in the south. The region borders on the Marmilla and the Iglesiente . Capo Frasca, north of Torre dei Corsari, is a restricted military area and is used by NATO for training flights from October to the end of June .
The tower from which the Torre dei Corsari settlement takes its name was built by the Catalans around 1600 to protect the coast. There were around 2000 towers of this type on the coasts of Sardinia. Since the tower was in danger of collapsing, it was completely restored from 2003 to 2005.
