Iglesiente

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Iglesiente is one of the 20 scenic areas on the Italian Mediterranean island of Sardinia . It is located on the southwest coast, bounded by the areas Arborea in the north, Campidano in the east and Sulcis in the extreme south of the island.

The region is rich in mineral resources such as silver , lead , zinc , copper , iron and coal , which were mined in mines from Roman times until the 1970s.

In addition to the ruins of old mining mines, the landscape is particularly characterized by the steep coast and the sand dunes of the Costa Verde nature reserve, rugged mountain ranges, fertile valleys and cork oak forests.

Major cities in Iglesiente are Guspini , Arbus , Villacidro and especially Iglesias .

Also worth seeing are the remains of the Roman-Punic Temple of Antas about 20 kilometers north of Iglesias, the Belvedere of Nebida and the offshore islands of Sant'Antioco and San Pietro .
