The Torrent River is a tributary of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence on the island of Newfoundland, part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .
River course
The Torrent River forms the outflow of a nameless lake located 430 m high in the Long Range Mountains on the Great Northern Peninsula . It flows in a predominantly westerly direction through the mountains and finally reaches the coastal lowlands. There the river flows through the lakes Pikes Feeder Pond , Middle Pond and West Lake . It eventually flows into the Hawke's Bay community in the eight miles deep Hawkes Bay and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The route 430 traverses the flow immediately above the mouth thereof.
Hydrology
The catchment area covers 624 km². The mean discharge is 24.6 m³ / s. In May, the river usually has the greatest discharge with an average of 71 m³ / s.
Fish fauna
The salmon population in the Torrent River system is considered "not endangered".
