Torsten Riotte

Torsten Riotte (born October 16, 1972 in Erbach (Odenwald) ) is a German historian .

Live and act

Riotte attended the Empress Theophanu School in Cologne and graduated from high school there in 1992. He studied Medieval and Modern History, Ancient History and German at the University of Cologne and completed his master's degree in 1999. Riotte received his doctorate in 2003 from Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge . His doctoral thesis Hanover in British Politics (1792-1815). Dynastic Relationship as an Element of Foreign Policy Decision-Making was published in 2005.

From 2003 to 2007 he was co-editor of the four-volume file edition British envoys to Germany, 1816–1866 , which the German Historical Institute in London published together with the Royal Historical Society . Since 2007 he has been a research assistant at the Goethe University in Frankfurt a. M. He completed his habilitation in 2014. His habilitation thesis was published under the title The Monarch in Exile. Another story of legitimism and statehood in the 19th century 2018 at Wallstein Verlag. Since 2014 he has held professorships in Frankfurt a. M., Bonn , Heidelberg and Tübingen .

Focus of work

Riotte's work focuses on 19th century European history, particularly British history, the history of the European monarchy and the history of diplomacy in Europe. He is also a specialist in 19th century history in Lower Saxony. In his more recent studies he turned to the history of medicine, with a research focus on questions of "medicine and economics" and the like. a. using the example of the emergence of liability insurance for doctors in Germany.
