Torsten Thormählen (born December 21, 1963 in Meldorf , Dithmarschen district ) was Mayor of Henstedt-Ulzburg from July 2010 to September 2013 .

Life and work

After graduating from secondary school in Sankt Michaelisdonn in 1980, he began training as an administrative clerk at the parish district of Eddelak-Sankt Michaelisdonn . After completing his training in June 1983, he was taken on as an employee and remained there until 1985. In between he did his basic military service in Goslar and Husum .

On January 1, 1986, he moved to the Kaltenkirchen-Land office and became head of the Ellerau branch . From 1993 to 1998 he was head of the building authority in Molfsee .

On March 22, 1998, he was elected first full-time mayor of the municipality in the first ballot by the citizens of Ellerau . On October 26, 2003, with an approval of 93.5% of the votes cast, a re-election for a further term of office was achieved. In the course of the administrative structural reform, Ellerau has formed an administrative partnership with the city of Norderstedt since January 1, 2007 and Torsten Thormählen has been the second city ​​councilor of the city of Norderstedt since then . There he was responsible for the works office, the office for building management, the youth welfare office, social affairs, day-care centers, schools and sports.

In addition, since July 1, 2006, he has been a board member of the Ellerau municipal operations.

On May 9th, 2010 Torsten Thormählen was elected the new mayor of Henstedt-Ulzburg with 60.64% of the valid votes in the runoff election and took office on July 1st, 2010. With the decision of the main committee of the Henstedt-Ulzburg community on February 27, 2012, an unlimited work ban was put into effect against Thormählen. The background to the work ban was the suspicion that during his time as mayor of Ellerau and board member of the municipal operations (KBE) he had embezzled around € 200,000 together with the KBE authorized signatory at the time.

At the request of the public prosecutor's office, the Norderstedt district court issued a penalty warrant for 10 months' probation and a probation condition of € 10,000 for fraud and withholding social security contributions. Other allegations were dropped. Torsten Thormählen has lodged an objection to the penalty order.

Together with the federal election on September 22, 2013, a referendum decided to vote out Torsten Thormählen. With a voter turnout of 73.1%, 77.3% of the citizens voted for his election. He was succeeded as mayor of Henstedt-Ulzburg by Stefan Bauer , who was also non-party .

Torsten Thormählen is married and has three sons.
