Toru bun
Toru Dutt ( Bengali তরু দত্ত), also known as Torulata Dutt (born March 4, 1856 in Calcutta ; died August 30, 1877 in Calcutta) was an Indian author who published in English and French .
Many members of Toru Dutt's family, including her father Govin Chunder Dutt , were active as authors and published prose or poetry . The Hindu family was considered progressive and converted to Christianity . From 1896 to 1873 they toured Europe together. Toru Dutt and her sister visited European educational institutions and learned French. At first they were students in a French boarding school in Nice , later they attended the University of Cambridge . The pen friendship with Mary Martin dates from the time of this stay. The letters have survived and are part of the collection of Toru Dutt's correspondence. It also contains letters from Toru Dutt from England to her cousins in India. We also know that she wrote to the French author Clarisse Bader to translate her book Le Femme dans L'Inde Antique into English. In Toru Dutt's letters to Mary Martin after her return to India, she describes details from her life in Calcutta as well as her wish to return to England.
Toru Dutt died at the age of 21. She was buried in the Christian Maniktala cemetery in Calcutta, where her tombstone can be viewed.
Toru Dutt is considered to be the first influential English-speaking Indian poet. Her works continue to play a role in understanding the literature of the Victorian Age .
