The Tour du Midi ( Dutch : Zuidertoren , German : South Tower ) is a skyscraper in the Belgian capital, Brussels . It is the tallest building in the city and the country . The tower is near the south station . The building is 148 meters high (171 meters with superstructures) and has 41 floors, three of which are underground. The floors can be reached by a total of eleven elevators. The tower was built from 1962 to 1967, at the time it was the tallest building in the European Community (now the European Union ) and was only surpassed in height in 1972 by the Tour Montparnasse in Paris .

From 1995 to 1996 extensive renovation work took place on the glass facade of the building.

Up to 2500 employees can work in the building.
