Lighthouse at Toward Point

Toward Point is a cape on the Kyles of Bute . It is located in the south of the Scottish Cowal Peninsula and thus administratively belongs to the Council Area Argyll and Bute . The small town of Toward is located directly north of the headland . The nearest city is Dunoon ten kilometers north . Together with Cape Bogany Point on the opposite island of Bute , Toward Point marks the eastern end of the Kyles of Bute at its confluence with the Firth of Clyde . At the top of the cape is a lighthouse built in 1812.

Numerous ship accidents have been recorded around Toward Point. The most recent accident so far occurred in December 1912 when the Janet & Sarah ran aground at Toward Point and had to be abandoned. Other ships that crashed at Toward Point include the Ardenlea on its way from Greenock to Cardiff and the Vespers coming from Lisbon on its way to Glasgow , both of which were lost in December 1854.
