toxic.fm is a non-commercial radio station in St. Gallen .

history

In May 2000, a group of students from the University of St. Gallen implemented a program in the first pilot phase, at that time still under the label "Radio HerzSchlaG", consisting of 17 hours of moderated programs every day, hourly news, reports on events and topics related to the university. On January 19, 2001, the Radio Herzschlag Foundation was founded, which toxic.fm was responsible for until 2010.

On January 24, 2001, the founding team submitted a license application to the Federal Office of Communications ( OFCOM ) for an alternative VHF frequency in St. Gallen . At the same time, a second, extended pilot phase ran from January to April 2001. At that time, the broadcast was from an apartment directly opposite the main university building. Since the license applied for could not be granted by the end of the pilot phase, the planned start of broadcasting from May 1, 2001 had to be postponed.

On December 3, 2001, the license for a “journalistic-cultural contrast program” was granted and toxic.fm was able to go on air with the FM frequency 107.1 MHz in St. Gallen and the surrounding area in the newly occupied studio location on Engelaustrasse.
