Reviews

“Targeted steps and movements through empty spaces, their rhythmic sequence creates a hypnotic pull - redundancy and absence as a subtle threat. The presence and impact of these images is confronted with the fragmentary and dream-like quality of memories ... a new film is created. With her appropriation of Alan Clarke's 'Elephant', which is as simple as it is efficient, Vanessa Nica Mueller succeeds in creating a multi-layered treatise on memory as a transition zone between reconstruction and retelling. 'Traces of an Elephant' covers the original like a second layer and expands into a personal document of a city between stagnation and change. "
