The Trachtenmuseum in Ochsenfurt in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg is a special museum that presents regional costumes in their various forms. The costume museum is one of Bavaria's non-state museums of national importance .

The costume museum is housed in the Greisinghaus in Ochsenfurt, a three-story building by the Würzburg Baroque master builder Joseph Greising from 1717.

Exhibits and topics

The traditional costume museum is dedicated to the traditional costume of the Ochsenfurter Gaus with its numerous gradations and variants. The most richly decorated costume in Lower Franconia is an expression of wealth, joy and sorrow. In addition to the highest festive costume, the image of the Virgin Mary and weekday costume, accessories such as pearl gloves, prayer books, embroidered shoes and stockings with elaborate knitting patterns are presented, as well as high-quality cashmere fabrics, shawls made of atlas, magnificent caps (tops) made of velvet and silk as well magnificent garnet cross hangings. The subjects of "laundry care", "production" and "traditional costume today" are dealt with on the 2nd floor. There is also the opportunity to try on a reconstructed traditional costume in the “Anziehkämmerle”.
