After attending the Wilhelm Pieck Polytechnic High School (now Rosa-Luxemburg-Gymnasium ) in Pankow, Wendisch began to study painting and graphics in 1977 with Dietrich Burger and Bernhard Heisig at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig. From 1985 to 1995 Wendisch was involved in the Burg Goldbeck joint project.
"Most of his works have an extremely drastic effect, often like apocalyptic farewells to the human condition, " says curator Hans-Michael Herzog. "Wendisch also seems to be in the best German expressionist tradition with his works - from the artists of the 'Brücke' at the beginning of the 19th century to the East German Expressionism of a Heisig to the neo-expressionism of the 'Neue Wilden' in the first half of the 80s Years.
