Black saddlebags is a dragonfly - kind of genre tramea of the subfamily Panta Linae . The species is widespread throughout the USA and southern Canada .

Construction of the Imago
The T. lacerata reaches a length of 47 to 55 millimeters, of which 31 to 38 millimeters are on the abdomen . The face is yellowish in young animals but becomes black with age in the males. The labrum in the males is black in the females, however, only with black borders. The top of the head is metallic purple. The thorax is brown with a black tinge. The hind wings reach a length of 40 to 48 millimeters and have a pronounced black color at the base. Otherwise the wings are transparent. The pterostigma is brownish black. The legs are black too. Furthermore, the wing has ten ante and nine postcubital veins . The abdomen is also black except for a few yellow spots on the middle segments.
